Meaning of Life == Happiness??

Had a long talk with bobo on the phone. Got some really interesting thought when I was giving my 'lecture'.

I always believe that the meaning of a person's life is his/her own happiness. No matter what you do, the final target is to make yourself happy. Different people find happiness from different ways, e.g. shopping, chatting with friends, being with loved ones, or working (less likely).

Also some people find happiness from being rich, having power / authority, seeing somebody else suffer, committing crimes, taking drugs. On the other hand, some good people find happiness from helping others, paying whatever price they need to pay, including sacrificing their comfortable life and live in rural villages in developing countries, to teach children, look after sick people.

People believe in God because they want comfort in their lives, and after their lives (I may have misunderstood the meaning of God, please leave comment to correct me). This in turns gives them happiness.

Happiness requires investment, often long-term investment. In the way of getting happiness, one may need to get through a lot of sadness, suffering, and doing something they don't enjoy. Working (as in 9-5 work) is a good example. People spend a lot of their time on doing something that they don't really enjoy (I bet many people would find being in a beach is more enjoyable than working in the office), in order to earn money to build their happiness by e.g. living in a comfortable flat, feeding their children + wife.

Therefore I think a person should not be afraid of little sadness, suffering, if they are part of the process of getting to eventual happy life. This may be obvious for a lot of people, but I believe the real meaning behind this is not obvious at all.

SEE FURTHER. INVEST WHEN NEEDED, IF YOU THINK IT GIVES YOU GOOD EVENTUALLY.

PS: of course, investments always have risks. For the above reason, you shouldn't be too unhappy if your investment didn't payoff. Your initiative was right.

Extracts from Alan Hansen column today

"Paul Jewell used to clean my boots when he was a young player at Liverpool - he did a good job then and he's doing an even better one as Wigan manager."

Alan is still really proud of his old days. But when we talk about the achievements of Paul Jewell and him, he has done nothing useful apart from giving wrong predictions on matches, being a super-crap commentator. He's done it time and time again, saying saying and saying...

Back to reality

The last two weeks have been really good. Even though I didn't have time to do my own shopping, it's the first time that I really didn't want to leave.

I had a lot of discussions about my next step, how I should manage my money, etc...

Jet lag now, super tired. Pictures will follow.

Questions on the month:
1. 百行以孝為先。但究竟何謂孝?
2. What's more important than family, bobo and friends?
